Mother Tongue Language Fortnight
The Mother Tongue Language (MTL) Fortnight is held annually, during which range of activities related to Chinese / Malay / Tamil Language and culture will be conducted. The objectives of the two-week programme are to create an immersive environment for the learning of the MTL, where Clementians are given authentic opportunities to use their Mother Tongue Language and develop appreciation for their Mother Tongue Language and culture.
Clementians taking Tamil participate in different activities, such as:
- Nursery Rhymes Competition
- Tasting of traditional Indian food
- Oil lamp painting
- Tea making
- Storytelling competition
- Learning Journeys
- Language and culture carnival
To enhance Clementians’ interest in learning the Tamil Language, the Primary 3 Clementians participate in the Junior Drama programme while the Primary 4 Clementians participate in the Radio Drama programme. They learn the art of communicating creatively in Tamil with the use of different intonation. The programmes also aims to improve their oral communication skills and enable them to speak with greater confidence.
Clementians are encouraged and given opportunities to showcase their talents and skills in various internal and external competitions, which builds confidence and develops life skills such as perseverance and adaptibility. One such competition is the Spelling Bee competition organised by the Vasantham Tamil News.
In 2018, our Primary 4 and 5 Clementians took part in this national competition, where they competed against 82 other primary schools and entered the finals. They came in 4th in the finals.
